    JOB SUMMARY

    The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) has duties and responsibilities related to patient care in the

    community, or field-based, setting. The CMA displays responsible behaviors, communicates

    effectively to others and functions as a member of the healthcare team. The CMA functions

    under the direct supervision and authority of the MD, PA, or NP when performing clinical tasks during patient care hours, interventions, or encounters. The CMA reports to the Care Center Administrator, who is responsible for administrative supervision, staff development, and orientation of the CMA to the group’s policies and procedures. The CMA must demonstrate knowledge and skill competency related to the performance of patient care. The CMA demonstrates problem-solving skills as they relate to patient care activities.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform proficiently all medical assistant back-office procedures:
      • Room patient
      • Obtain and record patient’s vital signs to include temperature, pulse-rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight and height, pulse oximetry.
      • Conduct additional patient screens per protocol such as pain scale, depression screening, and health literacy assessment. 
      • Report results to the provider.
      • Document in electronic medical record as appropriate.
    • Conduct in-house labs adhering to quality assurance protocols, infection control protocols, and aseptic technique.
    • Conduct all patient care activities under the direction of written orders from the provider
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with providers to ensure optimal team-based care delivery.
    • Efficiently and effectively take, document and communicate all telephone messages and/or telephone exchanges with patients, pharmacy staff and/or providers. 
    • Verify and update all patient demographic, medication, and pharmacy information in the EMR.
    • Field MAs: maintains/inspects stocked travel bags daily and reports travel and site locations to the Care Center Administrator per protocol

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Medical Assistant State Certification
    • Demonstrated patient care competency skills related to position
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and car insurance
    • CPR/BLS Certification
    • Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette
    • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow and care delivery
